Second-hand bookshop in a rural setting. Wide-ranging general stock. The priory buildings and grounds are free to visit.
Benburb Priory, which is run by a Catholic order known as the Servites, has an open-door policy towards all members of the community. It opened a second-hand bookshop in its craft shop in 2022, but in April 2024 it relocated the bookshop to the priory's library, where there is more room. All proceeds go towards the upkeep of the priory. There is a diverse selection of fiction (mostly in paperback), as well as children's books. The main non-fiction categories are history, religion and crafts, along with biographies. Access for those with disabilities is straightforward, as there is a ramp to the entrance. Benburb is situated amid very attractive scenery, about eight miles south of Dungannon and the same distance north-west of Armagh. To get here, you really need a car. Although there are vestigial bus links to both of the above places, the arrival times do not fit at all well with the opening hours here (the journey back could be less of a problem). Vintage comics, second-hand graphic novels and manga, including rare editions. Also some new stock.
The Very Back is a specialist outlet with a large stock of retro comics, some dating back many decades, as well as a wide selection of graphic novels and manga. Many of its titles are very elusive. Condition is generally from very good to mint. The stock includes large runs of Marvel and DC titles. There are also traditional-style comics such as 'The Beano' and 'The Dandy', although the emphasis is more on titles such as 'X-Men', 'Spider-Man', 'Avengers', 'Wolverine', 'Batman', 'Wonder Woman', 'Star Trek' and the like. The graphic novels are quite diverse, with plenty of hard to obtain titles.
The Very Back has a selection of its stock available on Fridays (9am-7pm) and Saturdays (9am-6pm) at the Meadowlane Shopping Centre on Moneymore Road in Magherafelt, Co. Londonderry, BT45 6PR, and on Sundays (8am-3pm) at Lane 7 in The Shed at Nutts Corner Sunday Market near Crumlin, Co. Antrim, BT29 4JS. But the majority of its stock is here at Dromore, a small town on the A32, nine miles south-west of Omagh and 16 miles north-east of Enniskillen. Dromore is served by the 94 Omagh-Enniskillen bus, which runs about every two hours on Monday-Friday, but offers only a very limited service on Saturdays. Booker T 20.10.25
