Thrift and reuse shop with a huge stock of second-hand books, reasonably priced.
The Clutterbug, a community thrift, recycling and vintage shop, which sells a wide range of donated items to raise funds for local good causes, has a surprisingly large stock of second-hand books: more than 10,000 of them, all well categorised, spread across various rooms and alcoves. A vast selection of fiction, including a small roomful each of crime/thrillers and sci-fi/fantasy. Also a good stock of children’s books and lots of school course books. For non-fiction, the stock is not as extensive, but there are decent titles in history, Irish interest, travel, natural history, sport, cookery and biography. Prices are moderate throughout.
The Clutterbug was set up a dozen years ago by local couple Jana and Michael, whose dedicated work involves repairing and upcycling items where necessary, and returning all profits to the community. As a result, the shop is highly regarded and attracts huge quantities of donations, the sales of which have raised well over €200,000 for worthwhile causes in the local area.

Cavan, at the junction of the R198 and R203 roads, almost at the tripoint boundary with the counties of Longford and Leitrim. The 862 bus (five return journeys per day) links Arvagh to Longford – where the nearest railway station is located – as well as Leitrim, Drumlish and Cavan. The 465 bus makes one return trip on Tuesdays only from Carrigallen to Cavan town, via Ballyconnell and Arvagh. Booker T 02.09.26
