New books, but a large stock of second-hand comics, including rare back issues.

The long-established Maynooth Bookshop sells almost exclusively new books, but has a large stock of second-hand comics and comic books, some of which are quite elusive. All the main periods are represented: the 'Golden Age' (1938-56), the 'Silver Age' (1956-70), the 'Bronze Age' (1970-85) and the 'Modern Age' (1985 to date), although inevitably the earliest of these has the smallest selection. Not only is there a large stock by mainstream publishers such as Marvel and DC, but there are also plenty of issues from more minor presses.

Maynooth University Bookshop (run by the same owners) also sells second-hand comics and is within a 15-minute walk, so would be worth checking out: it is located in the John Hume Building on the university's North Campus and is open Monday-Thursday, 8.30am-6pm and Friday 8.30am-4.30pm during term time; the hours may be shorter during university holidays.

Maynooth is in the north of Co. Kildare, only 15 miles west of Dublin. It is an attractive town with some interesting buildings, including the ruined Maynooth Castle. Maynooth railway station is on the Dublin-Sligo line, with trains every two hours, and also is served by frequent 'Western Commuter' trains on the Dublin-Longford route. The station is a five-minute walk from the Maynooth Bookshop. Maynooth also has good bus links, including services from Dublin (22, 115, C3, C4 and, on Monday-Friday only, X25 and X26), Longford (22), Mullingar (115) and Naas (139).
