A bookshop and café with quite a large stock of books (mainly second-hand, but also some new).
Full-height bookcases filled with decent-quality books line the walls. This is not just a coffee shop that stocks a few books as a sideline. There is a sizeable selection here. Specialities include Irish and local history, as well as fiction by Irish authors. The historic town of Kells is famous for its abbey and for the ninth-century extravagantly illustrated manuscript The Book of Kells (now kept 40 miles away in the library of Trinity College Dublin). Kells is just off the M3 motorway and has good bus links, including the frequent 109, 109A and 109X services from Dublin and Meath's largest town, Navan (the last of these also goes north to Cavan) and the less frequent 167, which serves Mullingar, Louth and Dundalk. Church shop with a sizeable stock of second-hand books on various aspects of Roman Catholicism, as well as many new books.
St Mary's (Roman Catholic) Church plays an important role in the town of Navan, with a large and active congregation. The church has a large "parish shop", which sells a wide range of Catholic-related goods, such as Mass cards, candles, communion and confirmation gifts, rosaries, statues, graveware etc. It also sells books. Most of these are new, but one quite recent development is that there is now also a substantial stock of second-hand Catholic books here, including "rare, hard-to-find, out-of-print books relating to our faith and lives". These include works about historical aspects of the Catholic religion and also about pastoral care and the application of Catholicism to daily life. No non-Catholic books are stocked. The church is in the centre of Navan, between the Fair Green and Trimgate Street. Booker T 25.08.26

A large stock of second-hand books at a huge retail unit run by the St Vincent de Paul charity.
This enormous St Vincent de Paul charity outlet sells not only furniture and other household goods, but also a very large number of second-hand books – far more than the small town-centre shop at Brews Hill: “We have plenty of room for them here. They don’t.” Huge numbers of paperbacks: romances, family sagas, historical novels and modern crime fiction are all well represented. Literary novels and classics are here too, but in much smaller numbers. Quite a good stock of books by Irish writers. The non-fiction is quite varied, but most of it is fairly typical charity-shop stock. Some good titles on Irish history, landscape and culture. A decent-sized stock of children’s books too. The prices are low throughout.
The shop is next to the Nissan car dealership on an industrial estate just to the north-west of the town centre, not far from the junction of the R147 and N51 roads. Navan, the largest town in Co. Meath, is about 30 miles north-west of Dublin. The railway station closed long ago, but Navan is served by buses from Dublin (109, 109X and the very frequent NX), Kells (109, 109A, 109X), Drogheda (188, 190), Trim (189, 190), Mullingar (190), Athlone (190), Cavan (109X), Kingscourt (107), Athboy (188) and Enfield (189).
