Small second-hand bookshop, reputedly Ireland’s smallest, with a wide-ranging general stock. Opened in 2012; at new premises since May 2024.
Please support this tiny shop in the delightful and interesting town of Boyle. Combine it with a visit to Trinity Books in nearby Carrick-on-Shannon. Brian Cox 13.06.19
The shop - known as "Ireland's smallest bookstore" - reopened in May in new premises overlooking the river at Bridge Street (below the New Taichi Court restaurant), after the collapse of the ceiling at its previous location forced its closure at the end of 2023. The owner, Mary, estimates that she has about 4,000 books at the new shop. Fiction (of all kinds), history, Irish interest and children's books are among the main specialities, but the stock is wide-ranging and very varied, with small selections for many non-fiction subjects. In 2023 the shop was named by the Irish Independent as one of Ireland's "100 best indie shops" (of any kind), and it was featured in the Irish Times' list of top independent bookshops a few years earlier: "What it lacks in square footage, it makes up for in clever use of space." This is equally true of the new premises, where stacks of books are piled high on the shelves. The shop is still open six days a week; it sometimes closes for half an hour or so between 1 and 2pm.
