National Trust bookshop located by the High Street car park. No admission fee. "A large range of books are available to purchase and we always welcome donations of pre-owned books."
Parking outside, but it can get busy especially on anything remotely like a weekend or warm day! Maybe 2000 books? Volunteer run, reasonable general donated stock so completely hit and miss as to what you might find! misterg 06.04.25

An independent bookshop for new books which also has an outhouse full of second-hand books reached through the back of the shop.
About 4000 secondhand books in the outbuilding behind the shop. Condition was variable but priced accordingly from what I saw. All categories were covered. Not WAD but worth a look if passing. One purchase made. David 11.04.25

History books, including local, military and general history along with children's books.
Between the railway station and the city centre. Welcoming and helpful owner with a good stock of books at reasonable prices, this small shop opened at the end of October. Recommended if you like history and a good browse. SteveBrissle. 21.11.15
Don't be put off by the name as there are lots of other subjects, history is just the speciality. After the loss of several bookshops in Salisbury it is nice to have new one to browse in. Local history and topography also feature well. The owner Patrick is ETGOW and this shop is WAD. John Edwards 15.08.16
A further visit, with the shop in a new location, next to Fisherton Mill. It's smaller but the stock remains varied and reasonably priced. Patrick is always welcoming and a visiting black cat provides an interesting diversion. SteveBrissle 31.07.19
Very much as the name indicates, though other categories are represented as well as history if rather nominally so in some cases Well worth a visit, though prices generally were higher than I expected.
Almost opposite on the other side of Fisherton Street is the Allsorts secondhand shop. This has a few cases of random and rather woebegone books, sad victims of house clearances, I suspect. Certainly NWAD but worth looking into on your way past. Laurence Purcell 05.05.22

Katharine House Gallery specialises in old books, unusual antiques and post war modern British art. Large stock of old books including modern firsts; art books & history.
Exceptional selection of Railway and Canal books, pamphlets and documents. Reasonable prices. Small collection of military books also. laGrandeMine 14.06.11
The transport section, which comprised more than half the stock and was indeed excellent, has gone. It was WAD but for me it is no longer worth a visit. I had travelled 40 miles especially it was so good. Very sad. What is left is very good condition general stock. Michael Grendon 18.01.20
Sale on here. Some books at 50% off, others at 20% off. A high number of art books which was not unexpected but plenty of other categories. Bought a few at very acceptable prices and all in excellent condition. David 11.04.25

Paperback fiction, a selection of non-fiction and collectibles. Also music, dvds and videos. Donations welcomed!
For once an excellent selection of history and sociology - probably to do with reading habits of posh town. Norman Davies 09.06.12
Now open on Sundays until 4. Agree previous comments and good literature selection. Herne 29.07.13
Well laid out Oxfam but high prices and better value at nearby charity shops. Parking nearby. The Drifter 06.09.13
Prices seemed about right and good fiction (old and new) section. Herne 21.06.14
Average stock and prices for Oxfam, so Marlborough is not really worth a detour these days if books are your only interest. Wessexman 18.07.22
A real surprise to me. This is a stunning and very affluent place but the Oxfam there had very sensibly priced and interesting stock. PLF 01.03.24
A lot of newish books in very good condition - strong on all categories of fiction with hb's starting at about £3.99. Other sections are hit and miss.
They are clearly good and sorting the quality items and marking them high, for example very average mid market chic lit signed hardbacks were priced upwards from £14.99 to prices with other quite nondescript signed history books at up to £44.99
That said, it warranted a mooch and there were some bits and pieces worthy of a buy. misterg 04.04.25
Found this Oxfam to be fairly priced and with some interesting stock. Probably not WAD but worth a look if passing. A couple of purchases made. David 11.04.25

Fairly small, but has a very good range of stock. James Keith 03.08.08
Much more reasonably priced on our visit than other Oxfam Books elsewhere. Picked up a few interesting books. Worth a quick look. M&O 09.06.12
The Oxfam that was in the news 4 years ago when Marc Harrison's excellent bookshop closed. This Oxfam is well laid out but features little of any real interest. Standard Oxfam overpricing. Parking nearby. The Drifter 22.08.13
Glass jaw. 1/10. The Boxer 13.09.13
Apart from not understanding any of the Boxer's allusions, this shop is not bad, standard Oxfam pricing but a decent range of books and vinyl. I came away with 5 books in good condition with change from a tenner. The street seems to be home to almost all of Salisbury's local and national charity shops. Happy hunting. Jon Morgan 19.12.13
Must be fair this was a bit of a revelation for an Oxfam - had a very high proportion of older titles and a pretty decent range. Sadly prices still unreal for many books. Worth a look for once. Norman Davies 17.05.14
Upstairs is now chaotic and uninviting. Classic and modern fiction is good. Non-fiction - they rely on internet sites for pricing without realising that many of the books could never be sold at those prices. Double- stacked cabinets annoying. Mary 21.08.15
Fairly dull stock. Visited this twice, to pop upstairs too. Chris K. 26.09.15
Good on literature and reasonable prices. Herne 29.04.16
One of the better examples of the breed. There's the usual dismaying vista of paperback fiction which smites the eye as you enter but there are plenty of good hardbacks in all the major categories. Laurence Purcell 26.08.21

A bookstall with 3,000 - 4,000 secondhand and antiquarian books on all subject. Peter is available in person on Thursdays and Fridays and is keen to buy.
Lots of s/h and antiquarian stuff. Fairly medium-priced but certainly worth a look. Chris K 07.10.15
Varied stock at reasonable prices on the 1st floor of the Antiques Market, with a great cafe on the 2nd floor. Worth a visit. SteveBrissle 24.11.15
Good selection of mainly older material. Best on topography and history. Herne 29.04.16
Reasonable size, but very misleading in places E.g. a dog-eared copy of Rushdie's Satanic Verses - labelled as a first edition for £28, but actually 15th printing... ditto on a few others. Just need to be careful as labelling and pricing are a bit erratic! Inverdale's Rug 27.09.16
One of those "battered caravanserais" that's found a home in a corner of antiques centre. There's much more there than appears likely at first sight. Well worth a visit and a good root round. Laurence Purcell 25.08.21

A variety of fiction and non-fiction, including history, art, transport, antiquarian and many more. New stock added every week. Donations welcome.
It's OK but certainly not WAD Laurence Purcell 25.08.21
I came upon this place quite by chance, stopping in Swindon on my way back from Bristol. At first glance it appears an average charity show with stock to match. In fact the stock is better than many Oxfam Bookshops and the Vinyl, which takes up most of one room was an added bonus. The second room is mostly non fiction with some good history and older style children's books. Books are well organised and well laid out, the shop is light and clean. I picked up three fairly light crime novels to add to series I already had and was charged the princely sum of £4.
Whilst I agree with Laurence that the shop is NWAD, I would not miss it in the bookshop desert that appears to be Swindon in particular and Wiltshire in general. Firedrake 25.02.22
The shop has moved from Commercial Road to 138 Victoria Road, where it opened on 18th November, ahead of schedule. The official opening day, with readings and performances, is on Saturday 30th November. The new location is in the town centre, but a bit further from the bus and railway stations, both of which are about a mile away. Booker T 27.11.24

4 respected bookdealers in attendence every Tuesday. Book clearance, general stock, local history, military etc. Bookfinders, buy/sell/valuations/enthusiasm. Also good antiques and collectibles available. Established for over 20 years and has a history of attracting good quality bookdealers amongst its general antique trade.
Small selection but a few goodies on 2 stalls at sensible prices. Worth a look if in the area. Norman Davies 17.05.14
We made a special visit to Devizes last Tuesday - were in the Shambles at 3.30 p.m. - only one bookdealer was there but packing up. Another bookdealer had gone. The notice outside had 5 pm closing so disappointing. Mary 05.12.16
